Ukraine has requested more support from the Australian government in their war against Russia’s spring offensive. The Donetsk region is experiencing intense attacks and the Ukrainian forces have accused Russia of using “scorched earth” tactics. Ukrainian Ambassador to Australia, Vasyl Myroshnychenko, has stated that Australia is falling behind other non-NATO countries in terms of assistance provided to Ukraine, and would like to see more military aid coming from Australia. The Ukrainian government has launched a social media campaign to request Australia’s latest armoured vehicle, the Hawkei, to support their troops. The Australian government has provided $582 million for humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine, including 90 Bushmaster vehicles. However, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has not confirmed whether Australia will fulfill Ukraine’s request for the Hawkei. Wong stated that Australia has responsibilities in the Indo-pacific but will consider Ukraine’s request.
