Crews have started repairing a section of Highway 170 in Rivière-Éternité, Quebec that was washed out on July 2, 2023. The Canadian Press/Jacques Boissinot reported this in an image.
The search for two individuals who were swept away by a landslide over the weekend in Quebec’s Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region is ongoing. Today, rescue teams are continuing their efforts to find a man and woman in their 40s who are missing in Rivière-Éternité, Quebec, which is about 260 kilometers northeast of Quebec City.
The search operation is primarily focused on a 1.8-kilometer stretch of the Éternité River, both along the shore and in the water. However, the Quebec provincial police have encountered various challenges such as debris from the landslide and extremely hot weather, which are slowing down the operation.
Following heavy rainfall on Saturday, with 130 millimeters of rain pouring over the area within a two-hour period, more than 50 individuals were forced to evacuate their homes due to flooding and washed away roads.
The two missing individuals have not been identified by the police, but it has been confirmed that they are not residents of Rivière-Éternité.
Another person was also caught in the landslide, but fortunately, they were rescued and taken to the hospital.
