A top CCP military official recently threatened to use military force to take control of Taiwan. In response, the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stated that they are not intimidated and are prepared for any situation. The Mainland Affairs Council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan criticized the CCP for being a troublemaker that undermines peace in the Taiwan Strait and the region.
Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of the CCP’s Central Military Commission, made the threat during the 10th Beijing Xiangshan Forum on October 30. He referred to Taiwan as “the core of China’s core interests” and stated that the CCP military will never agree to any form of separation of Taiwan from China.
Sun Lifang, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense of Taiwan, responded to Zhang’s threat by stating that Taiwan is actively preparing for war, but not provoking it, and is committed to ensuring peace and security in the Taiwan Strait.
The Mainland Affairs Council expressed protest against the CCP’s military officials for spreading political lies about the “one-China principle” and for threatening Taiwan. They criticized the CCP for trying to force Taiwan to accept their political framework and emphasized that these actions will only increase resentment among the Taiwanese people and the international community.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that the Republic of China Taiwan and the People’s Republic of China are not affiliated with each other. They stated that the CCP has never ruled Taiwan, and that this fact is recognized by all countries. They emphasized that no country has the right to deny Taiwan’s sovereign status.
According to Colonel Luo Zhengyu, an intelligence officer at Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense, the CCP has not given up on using force to invade Taiwan. He stated that as long as the CCP’s defense policy remains unchanged, the threat to Taiwan will always exist.
Wang Yanjun, director of former President Lee Teng-hui’s office in Taiwan, highlighted the ongoing threat of war since the Nationalist government relocated to Taiwan in 1949. He emphasized the importance of national defense education to educate the public about the realities of war.
It is clear that the tensions between Taiwan and the CCP remain high, with Taiwan preparing for any potential military conflict while emphasizing the importance of peace and stability in the region.
