Passport Canada’s services have been severely curtailed due to the ongoing strike by Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) government workers. The federal government has limited passport processing to Canadians facing financial hardship or with urgent travel requirements on compassionate or medical grounds. On the day the strike began, only 500 applications were processed out of the usual 20,000 to 25,000. Canadians have flooded the Passport Canada Twitter account with complaints of delayed services, including those who had paid for express service before the strike. Families Minister Karina Gould had previously assured Canadians that passport applications would be processed on time. More than 100,000 federal public servants have walked off the job since April 19, causing disruptions across various government services, including immigration and tax services.
