Public support for the Indigenous Voice to Parliament in Australia is waning, according to a survey by Resolve Strategic. The study of 1,606 voters revealed that support for constitutionally enshrining the proposal had fallen to 49% from 53% in May, while the “No” camp leads in the states of South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland. The Voice proposal would insert recognition for Indigenous peoples into the constitution and attach an Indigenous advisory body to the Australian Parliament. Critics have suggested that it would entrench division and undermine equality before the law. Nevertheless, the Yes 23 campaign group says that 500 organisations are now backing the initiative.
