An individual named Ben Newman, an animal rights activist, has been charged with causing a public nuisance after running onto the track at the Derby in Epsom on Saturday. The police have confirmed that he will appear before Guildford magistrates. Newman has been featured on GBNews as an advocate of animal rights and was named by Animal Rising on Saturday. Surrey Police have stated that one man was arrested for running onto the racetrack during a live race, and two women were quickly detained before they could enter the track. Apart from Newman, 31 other people were arrested on Saturday, with 12 being detained on the racecourse grounds. The Jockey Club, which owns Epsom racecourse, obtained an injunction to prevent the Animal Rising group from intervening in the event. Animal Rising is known for protesting against horse racing and for advocating the end of the breeding of racehorses. Nevertheless, the group was prevented from causing any hindrance at the event by Surrey Police and event security.
