The Diamond Foundation, a philanthropic organization based in Vancouver, has donated $20 million to Road to Recovery, a new drug treatment program set to open in British Columbia in the fall. The program will provide various drug addiction services, including in-patient care, transitional housing, and outpatient care, and aims to reduce wait times while offering a central location for services. The donation was made in memory of Steven Diamond, the Foundation director’s brother, who died of a fentanyl overdose while waiting to see an addiction psychiatrist. His family hopes that the program could have prevented his untimely death. The Province has made an additional commitment of $60.9 million for the program’s operating costs, while the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions has not commented on the matter.
