The Ontario Regional Police were seeking assistance from the public in locating a missing kangaroo. Reports of the kangaroo came from the area of Harmony Road North and Winchester Road East in Oshawa, around 7:41 a.m. on December 1st. According to a social media post by Durham Police, the kangaroo disappeared during a stop at the Oshawa Zoo.
Sgt. Joanne Bortoluss stated that the kangaroo got away in the evening on November 30th while at the Oshawa Zoo. The stop was intended to be brief, as a delivery driver en route to Quebec with two kangaroos made a pit stop to let the animals stretch their legs. The park supervisor and head keeper for the Oshawa Zoo and Fun Farm, Cameron Preyde, said that as the animal handlers were trying to unload the creature, it jumped over their heads and escaped.
Despite police involvement, the officers were unable to locate the kangaroo and Sgt. Bortoluss stated that the Durham Police currently have no involvement. A volunteer group called Team Chelsea is assisting in the search and containment of the kangaroo. They have posted a video of the escaped animal on social media and are asking for anyone with information about the kangaroo’s whereabouts to contact them at 905-666-4676. The Epoch Times attempted to reach out to the Oshawa Zoo for comment but had not received a response as of publication time.
