An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 struck Ishikawa prefecture on the west coast of Japan’s Honshu island, causing at least one casualty and over 20 injuries. The quake disrupted tourist plans and caused damages to several homes. Suzu city in Ishikawa prefecture experienced the most injuries and damages, with one person dying after falling from a ladder. Since the quake, more than 50 aftershocks have been recorded, including one at a magnitude of 5.8. Several residents took shelter in evacuation centers, and some trains were halted for safety checks but have since resumed normal operations. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida urged residents to exercise caution due to possible strong aftershocks and mudslides. Japan is known for being highly prone to earthquakes, with a massive earthquake in 2011 causing both a devastating tsunami and a nuclear plant meltdown.
