New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs is scheduled to make changes to his cabinet on Tuesday.
Earlier this month, two ministers resigned in protest of Higgs’s leadership style and the revisions made to the province’s policy on sexual orientation in schools.
Social Development Minister Dorothy Shephard resigned on June 15 after voting with the Opposition to request the province’s child and youth advocate to consult with stakeholders regarding the policy changes. Shephard stated that she stepped down due to the policy changes and Higgs’s tendency to dismiss input from cabinet members and the Progressive Conservative caucus.
Educational Minister Trevor Holder also resigned, citing the lack of consensus within the caucus under Higgs’s leadership.
It is uncertain whether the premier will only replace Shephard and Holder or if there will be further changes in the new cabinet.
