Residents of Dauphin, Manitoba gathered at church services on Sunday to mourn the 15 community members who died in a bus crash. Father Brent Kuzyk of St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church dedicated part of his liturgy to the victims, offering prayers for those who died, their families, and emergency workers. Churchgoers lit candles, sang hymns, and the first names of the bus passengers were read out. Other places of worship in Dauphin also addressed the tragedy during their regular Sunday services. Deacon Frances Stewart of St. Paul’s Anglican Church planned to offer a moment of silence for the deceased, emphasizing the importance of compassion and comfort during this grieving period. The RCMP continued to investigate the crash, and as of Friday, had not yet spoken with the bus driver who remains hospitalized along with the nine other survivors. Father Kuzyk spent the past few days praying with people at seniors complexes, as some of the victims lived there. He emphasized the importance of coming together as a community, praying, and eventually burying the deceased as part of the healing process.
