Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s office has announced that Kaleed Rasheed, a member of the cabinet, has resigned from his position and from the Progressive Conservative caucus. This decision comes following an investigation by the integrity commissioner regarding the government’s Greenbelt land swap. It is stated that if Rasheed is able to clear his name with the integrity commissioner, he will be welcomed back into the caucus.
Rasheed’s resignation follows reports from CTV and the Trillium questioning the accuracy of the timeline surrounding a trip to Las Vegas. In the investigation conducted by the province’s integrity commissioner regarding the controversial Greenbelt land swaps, Rasheed was interviewed regarding this trip. The Trillium had previously reported that developer Shakir Rehmatullah, who benefited from the land swap, had also been in Las Vegas during the same period, alongside Rasheed, Ford’s principal secretary, and the current housing policy director who was working in the private sector at the time.
