Ons Jabeur fought back from a set and a break down to defeat Aryna Sabalenka 6–7 (5), 6–4, 6–3 on Thursday, securing her place in the Wimbledon final for the second year in a row. This marks Jabeur’s third title match in the past five Grand Slam tournaments, making her the only Arab woman and the only North African woman to reach a major final. Unfortunately, Jabeur has not yet won a Grand Slam title, having lost to Elena Rybakina at the All England Club last July and to Iga Swiatek at the U.S. Open last September. Despite this, Jabeur’s victory prevented Sabalenka from claiming the No. 1 ranking. Sabalenka entered the match with a remarkable 17–1 record at majors in 2023, including a win at the Australian Open. Jabeur’s opponent in the championship will be Marketa Vondrousova, who became the first unseeded finalist at Wimbledon since Billie Jean King in 1963. Vondrousova secured her place in the final by defeating Elina Svitolina 6–3, 6–3, showcasing an impressive run of seven consecutive games. Although Vondrousova was nervous throughout the match, she managed to hold off her opponent’s comeback attempt.
