Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s Foreign Minister, disclosed that he had a thorough discussion with his Chinese counterpart about the unresolved issues regarding the India-China border dispute. The two ministers, Qin Gang and Jaishankar, met in Goa, India, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO) foreign ministers meeting. While the SCO is a multilateral group composed of eight members, including Russia, their meeting focused on resolving outstanding issues and achieving tranquility in the border areas. Qin informed Jaishankar that the current India-China border situation is stable. He further urged India to comply with the relevant agreements signed by the respective leaderships. Jaishankar’s ministry did not issue any official readout about the meeting. China remains willing to conduct bilateral consultations and exchanges with India to facilitate healthy diplomatic ties between the two most populous developing countries in the world. India-China relations have been deteriorating since the 2020 confrontation between their soldiers on a disputed Himalayan border. Since then, both countries have been taking extraordinary military measures on their respective sides of the contested border. India has continuously stated that normalizing its relations with China is impossible if the border issue remains unsettled.
