A think-tank report released by Migration Watch UK claims that the UK needs to build 15 cities the size of Birmingham to accommodate rising immigration figures. They suggest that current levels of net migration will lead to a population increase of almost 16 million to 80 million by 2046. The report states that reducing net migration to 100,000 or less per year would alleviate the housing shortage and benefit the younger generation and the environment. The report also states that legal immigration is at least ten times higher than small boat crossings and that it is changing the population of the UK beyond recognition. Though Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has acknowledged that the numbers are too high, the inability to control net migration has led to frustration amongst Tory MPs.
