A recent report by Fire and Rescue NSW sheds light on the importance of quick action during a house fire. The study, which examined over 30,000 structure fire reports, found that the first five minutes are critical in saving lives. While accidental fires are decreasing, they are becoming more lethal, caused by flammable spills, electrical or appliance faults, and heating leaks. Deputy Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell emphasized the importance of early identification of risk factors and public education. The report also found that hoarding increases the risk of injury and fatality during a fire, and response time is crucial in preventing the spread of flames beyond the originating room. Fewtrell urged people to prioritize fleeing their homes during a fire and avoiding going back inside.
