The federal government has announced a $20 million technical assistance grant to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to support climate adaptation, mitigation, and resilience projects. The announcement was made by International Development Minister Harjit Sajjan at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in London. The EBRD, based in London, is known as a climate finance leader and a supporter of countries affected by war, including Ukraine. The grant is part of Canada’s support for the EBRD’s High-Impact Partnership on Climate Action, which aims to attract global investments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen resilience to climate change, and protect the environment. Minister Sajjan also expressed Canada’s support for the launch of the G7+ and the Clean Energy Partnership for Ukraine. Additionally, Canada announced a $50 million investment in BlueOrchard’s strategy for gender equality, diversity, and inclusion in Latin America and the Caribbean. BlueOrchard’s investment fund aims to increase access to financing for underserved groups in the region. Canada expects its investment to attract over $215 million in additional investments. These investments align with Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy and its commitment to supporting locally led solutions in the Global South.
