In a recent announcement, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland authorized the transfer of seized Russian assets to Ukraine. Konstantin Malofeyev, a Russian oligarch, was charged by the Department of Justice for alleged involvement in promoting separatism in Crimea. The expropriated money, amounting to millions of dollars, will be used to fund the reconstruction of Ukraine in response to Russia’s military operation. Taskforce KleptoCapture has been established to prosecute and seize assets from “sanctioned enablers” of the Kremlin and Russian military. Former President Donald Trump expressed his willingness to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine if he were to be elected president again in 2024. He stated his intention to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to negotiate the settlement of the conflict.
