French President Emmanuel Macron stated that he believes a ceasefire is “the only solution” to the Israel-Hamas war. He also condemned the bombing of civilians in Gaza, saying there is “no justification” for it. Macron recognized Israel’s right to protect itself against Hamas, but stressed that the fight against terrorism must adhere to international humanitarian law.
Macron urged other world leaders, including the United States and the United Kingdom, to join him in calling for a ceasefire. He emphasized that fighting against terrorism should not involve the killing of innocent people. He also pledged additional humanitarian aid for Gaza civilians.
On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to Macron’s comments, stating that the responsibility for any harm to civilians in Gaza lies with Hamas, not with Israel. He stated that Hamas uses civilians as “human shields.” Netanyahu further explained that a ceasefire is not possible without the release of hostages, as Hamas had taken more than 200 hostages during an attack.
Israel has agreed to daily four-hour pauses in operations in Gaza to facilitate the safe passage of civilians away from the zone of fighting. The French leader, Mr. Macron, mentioned that they must work towards a ceasefire to ensure that all lives have equal worth. He also emphasized the urgent need for aid delivery to Gaza.
