British Columbia’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has reported that a 13-year-old boy and his father were the victims of a targeted double homicide in the suburban Vancouver city of Richmond. The boy and his 46-year-old father were killed at their home on Thursday, according to IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti, who shared the details at a news conference on Saturday.
He stated that the investigation is still in its early stages, but initial evidence suggests it was a targeted incident. However, the police are currently working to determine a motive for the crime. Pierotti also mentioned that the double homicide was not related to any gang activity.
The names of the father and son have not been released to the public, and the investigators confirmed that the father and son were not known to the police. Pierotti also revealed that other family members were present in the home in the hours prior to the deaths but were not present at the time of the incident.
Richmond RCMP responded to a call at the residence on Goldsmith Road, near the Rocky View Playground and London Sports Fields, around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. They discovered the deceased individuals in the home after receiving a report of a “suspicious circumstance.” The investigation team is urging anyone who may have seen anything suspicious at the Rocky View Playground or the surrounding pathways on the night of November 30 to come forward with information.
