The former head of the International Biathlon Union, Anders Besseberg, has been indicted in Norway for alleged bribery. Besseberg, who denies any wrongdoing, served as the sport’s governing body president for over two decades before resigning in 2018 following a police raid on the IBU headquarters in Austria. The Norwegian National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime accused Besseberg of aggravated corruption between 2009 and 2018, encompassing various bribes such as watches, hunting trips, prostitutes, and a leased car. The investigation involved cooperation with authorities from Canada, the Czech Republic, and Liechtenstein. Besseberg’s lawyer stated that the case has placed a considerable strain on his client and his family for over five years and that he looks forward to presenting his defense in court.
