A tornado hit central Alberta on Saturday afternoon, causing damage to homes and killing livestock. Fortunately, no serious injuries have been reported. Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a tornado warning for the area, and the tornado was tracked near Didsbury, Alberta. The RCMP received reports of a large tornado in Mountain View County, damaging numerous homes. Initially, there were reports of injuries, but later, it was confirmed that there were no known injuries. The tornado warning was eventually lifted. Deputy mayor Dean Allan stated that the tornado damaged twelve homes between Didsbury and Carstairs, with a couple of homes completely destroyed. Carstairs fire chief Jordan Schaffer mentioned that five homes were completely destroyed, and one person had to be rescued from her basement. Lisa Arrowsmith, a witness, described the frightening experience of driving on Highway 2 when she and her husband noticed a large funnel cloud. They chose to drive as fast as they could to try to outrun the tornado. Storm chaser Aaron Jayjack captured video of the tornado and noticed damage to two rural homes near Didsbury. The utility company, Fortis Alberta, reported power outages in Didsbury and Carstairs, but service was being restored. The Town of Carstairs implemented water-use restrictions until electricity was restored. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his support to those affected by the tornado and urged everyone to stay safe.
