Due to the lack of elected United Conservative Party (UCP) Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Edmonton, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith plans to create an advisory council of UCP candidate members to provide her with guidance on the province’s capital. During an interview with 630 CHED host Shaye Ganam, Smith noted the candidates who are looking to run again and will rely on their advice to ensure that Edmonton is not overlooked. Smith emphasizes that Edmonton is vital to the overall success of Alberta, and that the government needs to provide support for the city to address public disorders and mental health and addiction crises. Additionally, Smith plans to assemble a new cabinet and meet with newly elected UCP members to build her cabinet based on their passion. Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi congratulated Smith’s election victory and expressed his readiness to assist her in any way possible, particularly with Edmonton’s top priorities such as homelessness, mental health and substance abuse, and affordable housing.
