The Standing Committee on Public Accounts in the House of Commons is investigating a $140,000 donation made by two Chinese billionaires linked to the Beijing regime to the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation in 2016. Alexandre Trudeau, the prime minister’s younger brother and former director of the foundation, has indicated that he wants to testify before the committee and reveal “everything” he knows about the matter. However, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his family members have been exempted from being called as witnesses. Conservative MP and Chair of the Standing Committee on Ethics, John Brassard, has invited Alexandre Trudeau to appear before the ethics committee instead. Alexandre Trudeau claims the foundation has “done nothing wrong” and that the foreign donation was not an attempt at interference. Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre has called for Alexandre Trudeau to testify about his directorial involvement with the foundation two years prior to receiving the donation. Trudeau has denied involvement with the foundation for a decade.
