A UK teacher has been prohibited from practicing their profession after refusing to use a student’s preferred pronouns. Joshua Sutcliffe was found guilty of “unprofessional conduct” and “bringing the profession into disrepute” by the Teacher’s Regulation Authority (TRA). The panel deemed that Sutcliffe failed to treat the student, who identified as a male, with “dignity and respect,” resulting in an indefinite ban from teaching in England. Sutcliffe, who has Christian beliefs, is appealing the decision with support from the Christian Legal Centre (CLC). He argues that affirming children in gender distress in the classroom is psychologically harmful. Sutcliffe’s case follows the rejection of expert evidence and opposition from parents and pupils.
