The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) recently announced a strategic partnership with the Palestinian Authority during a meeting between CCP head Xi Jinping and Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas. According to Chinese state media, Xi expressed China’s willingness to assist the Palestinians in achieving internal reconciliation and promoting peace talks with Israel. Xi emphasized the strong partnership between China and the Palestinian Authority and voiced support for the Palestinian people’s quest for national rights. He also presented a proposal to resolve the conflict with Israel, with China offering to act as a mediator. In response, Abbas expressed the Palestinian Authority’s support for CCP efforts in achieving “national reunification” and condemned external interference in China’s internal affairs. The CCP and the Palestinian Authority have agreed to promote negotiations on free trade agreements, with China providing financial aid and supporting various projects to strengthen the Palestinian Authority. During Abbas’s visit to China, he also met with other high-ranking CCP officials, further emphasizing the commitment to bilateral relations. China’s mediation efforts in the Israel-Palestine conflict have been limited in the past, but this partnership signals a potential increase in China’s involvement. The CCP has historically had a good relationship with the Palestinians and has recently showcased its mediation capabilities through agreements such as the one between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Additionally, China has agreed to fund several projects in the Palestinian Authority, including solar power installations, solar panel production, a steel plant, and road infrastructure development.
