Global Affairs Canada has confirmed the death of an eighth Canadian citizen in the Israel-Hamas conflict. The individual’s death occurred in Lebanon, as reported in an update released on Sunday evening. Specific details surrounding the incident were not provided by the department.
It was stated that 130 Canadians were able to exit Gaza by way of the Rafah crossing, which had reopened to international travelers over the weekend. This development comes amidst the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel.
In previous attacks led by Hamas in Israel, seven Canadians and one person with deep connections to Canada lost their lives. An additional Canadian is currently listed as missing but has not been officially identified by Global Affairs.
Israel’s ground offensive has expanded to all parts of Gaza, with evacuations ordered for areas in and around Kahn Younis. The military efforts in southern Gaza have been declared to be of equal intensity to those in the north.
In Rafah and Khan Younis, Israel has reinforced its attacks, citing the alleged presence of numerous Hamas leaders. The intense bombardments have impacted the lives of the 2.3 million individuals residing in the region, particularly in the southern areas, having been previously directed by Israeli forces to vacate the north during the war’s initial stages.
