Canada and South Korea are in talks to share defence and security information in light of rising threats from China and Russia. The two countries recently agreed to create an intelligence-sharing pact, known as the General Security of Information Agreement. This move is aligned with Canada’s developing Indo-Pacific strategy.
Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly considers South Korea a trusted and strong partner with whom Canada will continue to deepen and strengthen cooperation. In fact, Joly also announced similar information-sharing plans with Japan last October, stating that the exchange of intelligence will enhance Canada’s ability to counter potential threats while collaborating with partners in the region to promote greater stability.
