A building collapse in Wenzhou city, China resulted in the deaths of four people, reported by state media outlet CCTV on Sunday. The incident occurred during the renovation of the building on Saturday, and all of the casualties were construction workers. CCTV stated that continuous rain hindered the rescue work and an investigation into the cause is underway.
This event follows several similar incidents in China recently, including the collapse of a gym in heavy snow in the northeast province of Heilongjiang last week, which killed three people. Additionally, in July, 11 people were killed when the roof of a school gym collapsed during intense rain in Heilongjiang province. Authorities believe that construction materials illegally stacked on the roof may have caused the collapse, according to Xinhua news agency. These incidents drew criticism and raised concerns about building safety in China.
One user of the Weibo social media platform expressed frustration, saying, “How come accidents like this always happen? The hidden danger of building safety cannot be ignored and needs to be treated seriously.” The question remains as to how to prevent similar incidents in the future.
