An Ottawa man was arrested near Toronto this weekend after being caught on video inciting hatred and expressing antisemitic views. Ottawa police have charged Mohammed Assadi with violating several bail conditions and are seeking to keep him in jail while Toronto’s hate crime unit conducts its investigation. The Crown stated that Toronto and Ottawa’s police hate-crimes units are collaborating on the case. Crown attorney Moiz Karimjee said in court that it’s crucial for the public and victims of antisemitism to have trust in the administration of justice and the rule of law. As of now, Mr. Assadi’s bail hearing has not been scheduled. Additionally, Mr. Assadi faces outstanding charges, including assault and breaking and entering, that have not yet been tested in court.
