Former federal assistant minister and senator Amanda Stoker has been preselected by the Liberal National Party (LNP) to contest the seat of Oodgeroo in the upcoming Queensland election. This comes after the announcement of Mark Robinson, the current LNP member for Oodgeroo, that he will retire at the next election. Ms. Stoker’s preselection reflects the party’s confidence in her abilities to represent the constituents of Oodgeroo.
The seat of Oodgeroo, which covers the northern bayside areas of Redlands Council east of Brisbane, has been held by Mr. Robinson since 2009. In the last election, he retained the seat with a 4.5 percent margin. Ms. Stoker expressed her belief that the Palaszczuk Labor Government has lost its way and emphasized the need for a government that will address issues such as healthcare, youth crime, housing supply, and cost pressures for local families.
As a former barrister and Sky News Australia host, Ms. Stoker brings a diverse range of experiences to her political career. She is the 10th candidate and eighth woman to be preselected by the Queensland LNP for the state election. Ms. Stoker expressed her eagerness to work alongside state Opposition Leader David Crisafulli in delivering real solutions and bringing about the change that Queensland needs.
Mr. Crisafulli praised Ms. Stoker’s track record of serving Queenslanders during her tenure as a senator from 2018 to 2022. It is expected that her wealth of experience will be an asset to the LNP team. While acknowledging that the LNP will be the underdog in the next election, Mr. Crisafulli highlighted the growing desire for change and his party’s commitment to gaining the trust of Queenslanders and proving their readiness to govern.
