A passenger bus in southern Mexico lost control and drove into a 75-foot-deep gully, resulting in the deaths of at least 29 passengers. The tragic accident occurred in the Mixteca region of Oaxaca, a state known for its indigenous population. Jesús Romero, the state’s interior secretary, confirmed that 27 people died in the crash, including a 1 1/2-year-old child. Approximately 20 individuals sustained injuries, with some being critically injured. Two victims later passed away at a hospital, bringing the death toll to 29. According to Romero, the bus driver appeared to have lost control of the vehicle due to a combination of lack of skill and fatigue. Photos provided by the police indicate that the bus overturned, causing significant damage to the passenger compartment. The bus was traveling from Mexico City to remote mountain villages in the impoverished Mixteca region, suggesting that the victims were individuals who worked in manual labor in the capital and were returning to their hometowns.
