Writing's future in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) 1

The potential consequences of artificial intelligence (AI) on society, literature, and education are explored in this article. The development of AI technology, such as ChatGPT, has the potential to cause substantial disruptions that could profoundly affect society. Both the American Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology, and the Law, and the Human Rights Commissioner in Australia have warned that AI tools pose a growing threat. In the world of literature, the use of chatbots is being compared to the printing press revolution in the 15th century. However, concerns have been raised that AI-generated works may be indistinguishable from those written by human authors, blurring the lines between fact and fiction. The article also questions whether teachers and academics will be able to differentiate between original and AI-generated content in essays in the future. To ensure that AI is controlled and that transparency is maintained, the article argues that AI-generated works should be identified as such.
