Sheila Lewis, an Edmonton resident in need of an organ transplant, spoke at the National Citizens Inquiry about being pushed to the bottom of the waiting list for refusing the COVID vaccine due to safety concerns related to her terminal illness. Despite meeting all necessary requirements and having natural immunity from having had COVID twice, Lewis was told that she needed the vaccine to stay on the transplant list, and when she refused, her status was reduced to “zero.” Lewis filed court proceedings to have her status restored, but was met with resistance and a gag order, even after providing evidence of natural immunity. Lewis urged doctors to have compassion and give people the “gift of life” instead of following strict vaccine mandates, and her testimony moved many, including commissioner Janice Kaikkonen, who praised Lewis for standing up for justice and compassion in Canada.
