William Hill fined £19.2m for failures in gambling controls. 1

The Gambling Commission has announced that three gambling businesses owned by William Hill have been found guilty of extensive social responsibility and anti-money laundering failures and must pay a combined £19.2 million in fines. This is the largest-ever settlement in the history of the Gambling Commission, established in 2007. WHG (International) Limited, operator of williamhill.com, will pay £12.5 million; Mr. Green Limited, operator of mrgreen.com, will pay £3.7 million; and William Hill Organization Limited, which operates 1,344 UK gambling premises, will pay £3 million. Among the cited social responsibility failures were allowing customers to spend tens of thousands of pounds without conducting appropriate checks. The fines will be directed toward socially responsible purposes. The UK gambling industry has come under increased scrutiny recently, resulting in a rise in regulatory enforcement cases.
