An alert from the Bureau of Meteorology has warned people in Western Australia to prepare for extreme and severe heatwave conditions. The forecast predicts sizzling temperatures in the high-30s to mid-40s in the Kimberley, Pilbara, and Goldfields regions. In the Pilbara, Marble Bar is expected to experience hot temperatures, with 44C forecast for Friday and 46C on Jan. 13 and Jan. 14. Perth is also expected to experience a low-intensity heatwave, with top temperatures of 37C on Friday, 39C on Saturday, and 37C on Jan. 14. Busselton in the state’s southwest is also predicted to reach highs of 38C on Jan. 13 and Jan. 14. Meanwhile, Broome in the north is forecast to have tops of 36C on Jan. 11 and Jan. 12 and 35C over the weekend. Showers and gusty thunderstorms are likely in the Kimberley through to Jan. 14. In the Goldfields, an extreme heatwave is also predicted, with Kalgoorlie expected to reach temperatures of 37C on Saturday, 38C on Sunday, and 40C on Jan. 15, when rain is also forecast.
