TSMC plans to hire 6,000 engineers in 2023. 1

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd (TSMC), the world’s largest contract chipmaker, has announced plans to recruit over 6,000 new employees in 2023, according to a statement released on Saturday. Despite a global decline in the chip industry, TSMC will be seeking young engineers with degrees in electrical engineering or software-related fields from various cities in Taiwan. The company has stated that the average overall salary of a new engineer with a master’s degree is T$2 million ($65,578.07). The semiconductor industry has suffered from a decrease in demand for electronics and high inventory levels following a chip shortage. A number of chip companies around the world, including Intel Corp., have cut investments. However, TSMC’s dominance in producing advanced chips for high-end customers such as Apple Inc. has shielded it from the downturn. While the company has slightly reduced its annual capital expenditure for 2023 and expects a first-quarter revenue drop, it predicts demand to pick up by the second half of the year.
