Sydney CBD building fire under control. 1

The image shows the aftermath of a Sydney fire that destroyed a seven-storey building in Surry Hills. However, the quick actions of firefighters managed to save adjacent apartments by immediately hosing down flaring spot fires. Over 120 firefighters from 30 fire trucks battled the blaze, which occurred on May 25th at a heritage-listed former hat factory. The factory’s roof collapsed, floors crumbled, and parts of the wall fell down, sending hot bricks to the streets. Fire and Rescue NSW Acting Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell praised the work of firefighters and revealed that it was a “very significant fire” and concerning how rapidly it expanded. Even though the adjacent buildings were evacuated, firefighters were able to prevent significant damage. Fewtrell confirmed that there were no reports of injuries, but one firefighter suffered a minor burn to his arm. Meanwhile, the cause of the blaze is yet to be determined as authorities continue investigation. The disaster led to the closure of nearby streets and rerouting of buses, causing substantial inconvenience to commuters.
