Otto, a powerful storm over the North Sea, caused disruption in northern Europe on Friday. The Danish Meteorological Institute predicted hurricane-force wind gusts, and the storm was set to move east over Sweden and the Baltic Sea. In Finland, authorities warned of possible power outages over the weekend. Norway and Denmark saw dozens of train and ferry cancellations, and some 5,000 passengers had to wait until at least Saturday to take ferries between the two countries. In Denmark, authorities advised against crossing bridges in lighter vehicles and some 280 residents of three buildings in Copenhagen were evacuated as a precaution. In southern Sweden, several train lines were temporarily closed due to the risk of falling trees and other objects. A ferry line to northern Germany was also suspended. The storm also caused disruptions in Scotland and northern England, with some flights and trains canceled and tens of thousands of homes losing power.
