Slim chance of finding breakthrough in Madeleine McCann search. 1

Authorities have concluded their latest search for Madeleine McCann, a British girl who went missing 16 years ago in Portugal. The police collected unspecified samples by a reservoir in Portugal, and the material will be handed over to German authorities involved in the case. Portuguese police have not confirmed if any relevant clues were found during the three-day operation that included sniffer dogs and a tractor-based tree-cutter. German prosecutors have been working with the Portuguese crews, but Prosecutor Christian Wolters stated that the expectations of finding any relevant clues were not high. Wolters emphasized the importance of continuing the investigation and mentioned that authorities were looking for the body. The main suspect in the case, Christian Brueckner, has been named by German prosecutors but denies any involvement in the disappearance. British police who assisted the search alongside their Portuguese and German counterparts have left the area.
