Skoda may cut 3,000 jobs due to EU emission regulations. 1

A board member of Czech carmaker Skoda has warned that the company may have to cut 3,000 jobs and stop producing smaller models, including the Fabia, Scala, and Kamiq, if the proposed Euro 7 emissions scheme is implemented in its current form. The EU’s proposed law would tighten limits on emissions of harmful pollutants by cars. Skoda, which is part of Volkswagen, would have to close one plant if the law was approved, while more than 10,000 jobs would be at risk in the Czech Republic, including at Skoda’s suppliers. The three smaller models account for almost a third of Skoda’s deliveries to customers. Transport ministers from eight European countries met yesterday to discuss efforts to change the Euro 7 proposal.
