At least six people were killed and three others were injured in a collision between a pickup truck and a minibus near Egypt’s eastern city of Ismailia on Thursday, according to health officials. The deceased included five Palestinians, aged between 20 and 50, and one Egyptian.

Eight ambulances were sent to the site of the accident to transfer the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. The five Palestinian passengers were reportedly on their way to Rafah, Egypt’s official border crossing with the Gaza Strip.

Fatal car accidents are unfortunately common in Egypt, with thousands of deaths every year. Last November, 21 people were killed when a bus fell into a canal in the Nile River Delta region, and in July 2022, 23 people perished when a passenger bus crashed into a parked trailer in the south of the country.

The primary causes of these car crashes and road collisions are usually speeding, poor roads, or inadequate enforcement of traffic laws.
