On Sunday afternoon, a bus carrying 45 passengers, including migrants from Venezuela, Colombia, and Central America, crashed in central Mexico, killing 17 people, according to Puebla state officials. 15 people died at the scene of the accident, while two more succumbed to their injuries in hospital. 15 people were hospitalized, with 5 still in critical condition. It is unclear how many of the dead and injured were migrants.

Mexican media reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle, with images showing parts of the bus crushed and mangled. This tragedy comes just a week after dozens of migrants were killed in Panama when their bus fell off a cliff, the worst migration accident in the country’s history.
