The tremor was felt in the capital city of Bucharest and the northern city of Cluj, causing some supermarket products to fall from their shelves. No serious damage or casualties were reported in the incident, according to local emergency authorities in Gorj County. This was the second earthquake of similar magnitude to hit Romania’s Oltenia region in 24 hours, with an earlier quake occurring on Monday with a magnitude of 5.2 and at a depth of 13.2 kilometers (8 miles). Aftershocks above magnitude 3 followed both quakes.
