Quebec Premier François Legault pledged to enhance mental health services in response to a tragic incident where a pick-up truck collided with pedestrians in the town of Amqui, killing two individuals and injuring nine others. Legault met Amqui residents, opposition leaders and politicians, giving a message of condolence and support. He spoke of the need to improve mental health services in the province and called for action to prevent further similar incidents. Legault expressed his concern over the difficulty of encouraging people to seek mental health support but said more must be done to ensure these services are provided locally, even in small towns. He also recognised the challenges facing mental health professionals, such as shortages in recruitment and training. He offered condolences to those affected by the incident and encouraged them to support one another, move forward and reclaim their normal lives.
