The Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec, which represents 80,000 nurses and other health care workers, has declared that their negotiations with the provincial government are still at a standstill as they head into the new year. This labour group was one of several public sector unions that went on strike over the past two months due to tense talks with the province.
While all other unions announced tentative deals for new collective agreements this week, the nurses’ union remains the only group still without a breakthrough in negotiations. The union cites significant disagreements at the bargaining table, with issues related to workload, overtime, and compensation for evening, night, and weekend work still unresolved.
To avoid hindering negotiations, the union has decided to limit its comments in the media until Jan. 15 and has committed not to hold any more strike days until then.
