Quebec provincial police have reported that a five-year-old child died after being injured by a fold-out bed at a hotel outside of Quebec City on the evening of January 12. Sgt. Hélène St-Pierre stated that police were called to the hotel in St-Gabriel-de-Valcartier around 5:15 p.m. in response to an injured child. The child was then taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
The provincial police force’s major crimes unit is investigating the incident, and a police forensic team has analyzed the scene. According to St-Pierre, investigators are considering all possibilities, but at this point, the case does not appear to be criminal in nature.
