Recently, at the Mexico City International Airport, an incident occurred where a man opened an emergency exit and walked out on the wing of a parked plane. The airport acknowledged this event and said that the man had been turned over to the police. However, dozens of fellow passengers signed a statement saying that the airline had made them wait for four hours without ventilation or water while the flight was delayed, as corroborated by an incident report. Photos of this statement were posted on social media and indicated that the man’s actions were seen as a way to protect the health of the passengers.
According to the airport’s statement, the event required the plane to be changed, which caused a delay in flight AM672 to Guatemala City of 4 hours and 56 minutes. The passengers’ discomfort may have been due to these delays, as a maintenance alert caused the captain to return to the gate for required maintenance.
However, the man’s identity was not disclosed, and it is unclear whether he remains in custody or faces charges. AeroMexico had not commented on the event at the time of the report. Videos from the flight showed passengers asking for water and fanning themselves to cool down.
