Over 40 cars collide in Hungary highway collision 1



A pileup of dozens of vehicles occurred in Hungary, causing several injuries and setting some of the vehicles ablaze. The collision involved 5 tractor-trailers and 37 other vehicles on the M1 highway, located around 15 miles (25 kilometers) west of Hungary’s capital, Budapest. The accident resulted in 36 injuries, including 1 life-threatening injury and 13 serious ones, with 19 vehicles catching fire. The fires were extinguished, and rescue helicopters and fire and rescue teams from nearby cities treated the injured. Traffic in both directions of the M1 highway was blocked while recovery and cleanup operations took place. The cause of the accident is unknown, although a localized dust storm may have reduced visibility, according to the Hungarian Concession Infrastructure Development Plc.
