The New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) has refused to confirm whether a Chinese-born New Zealand citizen working in the civil service has been detained on suspicion of spying for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Yuan “Jason” Zhao, a senior analyst for the NZ Public Service Commission, was quoted by Stuff as saying he had been accused of being an “insider threat”. Zhao denied the accusations. The case comes as tensions rise in the Indo-Pacific, with China seen as an increasing threat.
